Rumor: NYSE Parent Company Has Plans To Open Bitcoin Exchange

The New York Times released a story indicating that the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, Intercontinental Exchange (“ICE”) has been working behind-the-scenes to build an online trading platform that would allow large investors to trade Bitcoin, according to confidential emails and documents viewed by NYT correspondents and individuals close to the project who wish to remain anonymous.

No official statement has been provided by ICE, and sources are uncertain at this point.

The catalyst for recent rumors of established financial firms enterin crypto appears to have been Goldman Sachs’ announcement that they intend to open a bitcoin trading desk.

Substantiation of these rumors remains to be seen.
